This
installation is not about what is real and what is not, but rather how your
perception of the world influence the experiences you have within it.
You
perceive the world what you project onto it.
Each of
us 'sees' the same physical reality, but from a different point of view. What
is a friendly pet to one person can be a major threat to someone else.
Perception is not only what we see but also what we experience. Feelings and
emotions play an important role.
‘We
only know what we see and experience’
This
gives the viewer to think about how we can actually manipulate our feelings and
emotions as well as our experiences. And questions that subject and object are
not separated. Perception is not simply a question of vision anymore.
Petra
provides a playful arena for unique perceptual discoveries.
The
different assembled objects of plastics, and other playful materials placed in
the space are making often subconsciously associations that influence our
perception. The way the installation is installed resembles a new created
imaginary world by the artist.
The
color white is chosen for different reasons. Throughout history the color
stands for clarity, cleanliness and neutrality. But in this case it is also
used as a blank canvas. The images of the projections change and will give the
installation a different feeling and experience each time.
She
challenges the viewer to project their ideas, their feelings and emotions onto
the installation. Initially she provides the images. The way the viewer
experiences the images within the installation is up their personal state of
mind.
She
will take it to another level by asking the viewer to bring their own slide or
DVD to the space throughout the length of the exhibition, to project their
favorite image or movie onto the installation.
Like
this she provides space to share projections and perceptions of others and with
others.
As
a conclusion; how you view a situation is a factor in deciding how to respond
to the situation. Therefore, one of the best ways to make real, lasting change
in behavior is to examine and potentially change your perceptions. Look at how
you see the world and then decide if how you perceive it is really working for
you. If not, Change!
